Functional coating plays a key role in preparation of vascular stents. The technical difficulties are to control the totalcoating precisely and ensure the stability and uniformity of coating on the micro-level stents’ structure. Study on the stent coating technology can not only guide the process of stent coating to improve the coating quality, but also optimize the coating surface to improve the biomedical performance of stents.

Ultrasonic atomization is the phenomenon that small droplets formed on the surface of the liquid when the film inspirited by the high frequency vibration. The size of ultrasonic atomization particle is an important parameter for evaluation of the atomization performance. Systematic research on the ultrasonic spray technology for coating of vascular stent was made. The results show that the spray is stable though few particles are likely to collide each other during spray moving, and the droplet diameter is about 10 μm. The uniformity of spray particle diameter, the efficiency of adjustment and the energy consumption are better than traditional spray technology. The ultrasonic spray process parameters for stent coating are optimized to eliminate the common defects and obtain fine coating.
